Judging Criteria and Winner Selection

Projects will be judged across four areas:

Defending Design Decisions (25 pts) — Can you clearly explain why you built things the way you did? This includes your tech choices, system design, and product decisions. We're less interested in whether everything is perfect and more interested in how well you can justify your approach.

Technical Communication (25 pts) — Did you come talk through your ideas during the hackathon? Ask questions? Share how you were thinking through problems? Participants who engage openly and show how they process feedback will be looked at favourably here. This is based purely on technical discussion — no personal relationships factor in.

Creativity with Qur'anic Inspiration (25 pts) — How thoughtful was your verse selection and how well does it translate into what you actually built? We're looking for a genuine, meaningful connection — not a verse tacked on at the end.

Final Product (25 pts) — Is there a working demo? With tools like AI available today, teams should be able to produce a reasonably polished prototype. It doesn't need to be production-ready, but it should be tangible and functional.

Bonus (+5 pts) — Used a technology, framework, or language you've never touched before? Tell us what it was and what you learned. First-time builders who shipped their first site qualify here too.

Code of Conduct

This hackathon is meant to be a welcoming, respectful, and productive space for everyone involved. All participants, sponsors, organizers, and attendees are expected to follow this code of conduct throughout the entire event.

Respect and Inclusion

Treat everyone with dignity and respect regardless of background, skill level, gender, ethnicity, or beliefs. Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or any form of hostile behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes verbal comments, unwelcome physical contact, and deliberate exclusion.

Collaboration Over Competition

This is a learning-first environment. Help each other out, share knowledge freely, and celebrate what others are building. Tearing down someone else's work or discouraging newcomers goes against everything this event stands for.

Academic and Technical Integrity

All code submitted must be written during the hackathon. You may use open-source libraries, APIs, and AI tools, but your core idea and implementation should be original work created within the event window. Clearly credit any external resources, templates, or starter code you use. Plagiarism or misrepresenting someone else's work as your own will result in disqualification.

Fair Judging

Judging is based strictly on the published criteria. If you have a concern about the judging process, raise it with an organizer directly and respectfully.

Safe Environment

If someone asks you to stop a behaviour, stop. If you witness or experience anything that makes you or someone else feel unsafe, report it to an organizer immediately. All reports will be taken seriously and handled with discretion.

Consequences

Anyone who violates this code of conduct may be asked to leave the event at the discretion of the organizers. Serious violations may result in disqualification and removal from future events.

By participating in this hackathon, you agree to follow this code of conduct and help make this a positive experience for everyone.
